THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO POWER QUALITY--UPDATED AND EXPANDED
Electrical Power Systems Quality, Third Edition, is a complete, accessible, and up-to-date guide to identifying and preventing the causes of power quality problems. The information is presented without heavy-duty equations, making it practical and easily readable for utility engineers, industrial engineers, technicians, and equipment designers. This in-depth resource addresses the essentials of power quality and tested methods to improve compatibility among the power system, customer equipment, and processes.

Coverage includes:
Standard terms and definitions for power quality phenomena
Protecting against voltage sags and interruptions
Harmonic phenomena and dealing with harmonic distortion
Transient overvoltages
Long-duration voltage variations
Benchmarking power quality
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards
Maintaining power quality in distributed generation systems
Common wiring and grounding problems, along with solutions
Site surveys and power quality monitoring

About the Author

Mark F. McGranaghan (Knoxville, TN) is Vice President of the Power Delivery and Utilization Sector for the Electric Power Research Institute. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Toledo and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He was vice chairman of the IEEE SCC 22 Power Quality Standards Coordinating Committee and a technical advisor for the IEC SC77A (International Power Quality Standards). He has taught seminars and workshops around the world had has worked with electric utilities and end users to solve power quality problems.

Dr. Surya Santoso (Austin, TX) is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas. He earned MSE and PhD degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in electrical engineering. Dr. Santoso`s research interests are in electric power quality and wind power systems. His most significant contributions are in pioneering and advancing the engineering science of root-cause analysis of electric power quality disturbance phenomena, education of electric power quality, and in the time-domain modeling and simulation of electromagnetic transients and wind power systems for integration studies. While working in the industry, he was a principal investigator for over twenty industrial and utility studies in power quality and wind power integration. His research in academia has been supported by EPRO, TVA, ONR, NSF, NREL, Electrotek, and Manitoba HVDC Research Center.

H. Wayne Beaty (Flower Mound, TX) is editor of McGraw-Hill`s Standard Handbook of Electrical Engineering and Handbook of Electric Power Calculations, co-editor of Electric Motor Handbook, editor of Alexander Publication`s An Introduction to Electric Power Distribution. He is the former managing editor of Electric Light and Power and Power Delivery Product News. Beaty is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Surya Santoso, Ph.D., is a senior power systems engineer at Electrodek Concepts, Inc. His primary interests involve modeling of transients and harmonic phenomena and development of intelligent systems algorithms for power quality data analysis. Santoso is a senior member of the IEEE

Mark F. McGranaghan is vice president of sales and marketing for Electrodek Concepts, Inc. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Toledo and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. McGrahaghan was vice chairman of the IEEE SCC 22 Power Quality Standards Coordinating Committee and a technical advisor for the IEC SC77A (International Power Quality Standards).

Roger C. Dugan is a senior consultant with Electrodek Concepts, Inc. He has a BSEE degree from Ohio University and an ME degree in electric power engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dugan has nearly 40 years` experience in electric power quality and distribution system analysis. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his work in harmonics and transients.
