By 2045, Indonesia could harness one of the world`s most controversial energy sources - nuclear power. A New and Renewable Energy Bill, that is currently tabled in parliament, will make nuclear a key energy pillar, to mitigate climate change. With three nuclear research reactors already operating in the country, Indonesia has been considering nuclear as a power option for almost seven decades. But despite most of the population supporting the use of nuclear, there are still pockets of opposition, among activists and politicians alike, who fear a nuclear fallout like Fukushima. Does Indonesia have the required expertise and governance to run nuclear power plants?
