Oct 22, 2026 - China`s Solar Now Beats Coal. Here`s How It Happened China`s solar power now beats coal. At the end of July 2026, for the first time ever, China had more solar capacity than coal capacity: 1,286 GW vs 1,285 GW. Here`s how it happened. China is the world`s factory. It makes roughly 30% of everything manufactured on Earth and uses about a third of the world`s electricity. For decades, almost all of that ran on coal. In this video we go through the numbers behind its clean energy shift: 1.2 terawatts of solar, 640 GW of wind, electric cars at about half of new sales, battery storage up 84% in a year, and Beijing`s air pollution down about 70%. We also cover the other side: record new coal proposals, clean power being thrown away on the grid, and what China`s 2035 climate pledge really means.
